sonicLAB presents the root of electronic music brought into the now with immense computing power.
Available as VST3, AU, standalone.
Fundamental is designed and programmed by Sinan Bokesoy.
first release 06/2020
"Set the oscillator frequencies based on the distance of the planets from the sun in our solar system. Find the other planet frequencies proportional to Mercury which is assigned to lowest frequency as 150hz and becomes the first oscillator. Change the gain of the oscillators continuously according to orbits of each planet around the sun. Make the Earth full orbit 8sec. long and assign the other planet orbits proportional to it."
In a pioneering move, sonicLAB has embedded accessible AI Large Language Model (LLM) into Fundamental 4, allowing for control over synthesis parameters through natural language.
By using natural language prompts, the AI LLM can translate and unlock the ability to compose sonic gestures that go beyond manual control.
It can create sonic details so precise they would be impractical to build by hand or with detailed DAW automation.
Fundamental 4 shifts your role from a parameter programmer to a system designer. It offers bridging the gap between creative intent and technical execution.
Instead of thinking 'what value should this knob have?', you are thinking 'what makes the structure of the sonic universe?'. This is a fundamentally creative and high-level approach to sound design.
With Fundamental 4 you can control the synthesis engine based on imagination, physics, and metaphor rather than just numbers.
Fundamental 4 offers the standard features of the Fundamental 3 revised and better optimised. You will require a purchased license for running the Fundamental 4.
The AI LLM features on Fundamental 4 are offered with Pay-As-You-Go system. No monthly payments, no subscriptions.
You can purchase a pack of tokens which do never expire on your account. It costs just 3USD and will give you access to 150 – 200 AI prompt requests. A new purchase of Fundamental4 license includes a pack of tokens which you can activate.
You only pay for what you actually use. Fundamental 4 remains fully functional with or without the LLM.
Caution: Fundamental 4 uses a cloud based AI API service, therefore a stable internet connection is needed to operate the AI.
– A built-in AI Large Language Model interface with token based Pay-as-you-go system. No subscriptions.
– Prompt the AI with direct, emergent or abstract definitions and the generative AI will apply its interpretation to the Fundamental synthesis engine.
– You can save the AI prompt and its interpretation along with presets.
– Improvements made on the user interface, easier manual frequency assignment and added graphical components.
– Fundamental 4 will work with a Fundamental 3 license.
Fundamental3 welcomes a built-in stochastic sequencer driving all its oscillators as sequencer events with sample accuracy.
A stochastic sequencer calculates its event with probabilistic functions to decide their onset time and durations to distribute them on the sequence time line.
Also the sequence length can be changed with probabilistic means after each cycle.
On Fundamental3 one can deterministically distribute the events as well, multiply the durations / compress or expand the sequence distribution.
One can select and edit the duration and onset time of each event, freeze the current distribution, and quantize the onset and duration values just like on a DAW.
Fundamental3 offers oscillator cloning, where each oscillator has a unique clone with custom detuning and unique GEN modulators.
Fundamental3 offers additional set of envelopes which are applied on sequence event apart from the ones on the oscillator gain level mixer.
sonicLAB proudly presents Fundamental 2 after a long development run. The new features and improvements highlight this genuine instrument once more as a priceless tool for the electronic musicians.
A stylized Ring modulator with 7 independent modulator oscillators and 1 carrier oscillator with all stochastic frequency and gain modulation capabilities of Fundamental.
A Morphing Engine capable of rendering audio rate transitions between parameter spaces of 4 Fundamental instances. (It is the same DSP inherited from our Cosmosf Saturn). One can even morph between tuning scales..!
Manual and stochastic control of the morphing pointer. Morph interpolation speed, and distance settings can be adjusted.
Use rotary encoder Midi controllers to control the oscillator frequency with up to 1hz precision with remote standard midi CC controller. Feels definitely like analog!
A full Morse code translator is available as a GEN modulation source and can be sent to pitch, gain, panning and harmonic ratio destinations. Each oscillator can have its unique morse code, likewise capable of creating complex poly rhythmic patterns easily.
Fundamental Banks contain now 24 presets.
Fundamental2 test equipment oscillators can be addressed directly with multichannel midi note-on messages on respective midi channels from your DAW tracks to perform sequences.
Midi CC7 (oscillator post volume) and CC10 (panning) destinations are targeting directly each oscillator when sent on respective midi channels. Also the CC14 and CC15 is targeting directly the morph pointer of the morph engine.
The Sensel Morph map has been revised to access the new morph engine of Fundamental 2.
Fundamental is a sound synthesis tool combining different roots of electronic music history. Fundamental wave engine is a faithful recreation of a vintage Rohde&Schwartz vacuum tube oscillator (having been widely used at WDR by Stockhausen).
Fundamental leaves behind the limitations of the original device with a genuine instrument design by proposing effective modulation possibilities, stochastic distributions addressing the sonic parameters like frequency, gain, panning etc. in continuum, which has not been applicable until now.
Fundamental feels like something Stockhausen, Xenakis and HAL 9000 might have dreamt up after a bender; recalling the past of electronic music through a dynamic modern interpretation of massive german vacuum oscillator.
A test equipment sound is not pure technically. The gain stage has a vacuum tube also the frequencies below 60hz do sound anything but a sine wave. All these are the signature of a vintage sonic richness.
The core idea here was basically recreating an instrument with a test tone equipment sound in software form but with the approach and design which sonicLAB has followed on its previous products.
The initial concept is based actually on sonicLAB PaSSBot.
The Fundamental software presents you 8 instances of a vacuum tube sine wave generator with all the artifacts and sonic richness of a vintage equipment.
Whether you play live electronics, compose for media or interested in early electronic music...
Unique polymorphing wavetable synthesis without any compromise in data content and precision.
Each voice represents infinitesimal steps of frequency and gain combinations of the vintage oscillator between 1Hz and 3800Hz.
8 simultaneous voices / oscillators each with custom freq, boost, panning modulation settings.
Custom or harmonic frequency distribution of voices with variable spread ratio and tuning scales.
4 independent stochastic modulators for each voice (32 in total) addressing all parameters with various continuous and discrete distributions and also standard waveforms.
Full MPE support with various configuration possibilities.
Independent Attack / Release envelopes for each voice with various modes, AR times can be set to degrees of randomness.
Vintage oscillator / Pure Sine wave mode.
Fundamental is available for OSX, Windows and iOS platforms as VST3, AU, standalone and AUv3 formats.
All sonicLAB products are 64bit only.
Recommended system : OSX Catalina or higher , Windows10 or higher.
Apple Silicon M1 1st gen. equivalent or better.
